I built master (4.2rc) from source (git clone git://git.samba.org/samba.git) yesterday and got it working on one of my targets. It was easy enough that I think that's a reasonable way to work around this while the feed is stuck on the older version. Aside from the usual suspects (gcc, g++, binutils, etc.) I also installed python-modules, perl-modules, libacl-dev, and libldap-2.4-dev, then ./configure && make && make install worked.
