What challenge/problem are you trying to solve through your application:

Surveillance is very useful to governments and law enforcement bodies to maintain social control, recognize and monitor threats, and prevent and investigate criminal activity. Aerial surveillance is the gathering of surveillance, usually visual imagery or video, from an airborne vehicle—such as an unmanned aerial vehicle, helicopter, or spy plane. Aerial surveillance finds application in different sectors like forest, military, inaccessible areas and many other sectors.

The project that we are working on is Autonomous Intelligent Surveillance using Quadcopter (AISQ). A Quadcopter can be used as versatile test platform to perform Autonomous Surveillance. It can easily perform autonomous flights and eliminate the need to put people in dangerous positions. Due to its simple mechanical designs it can be built, controlled and maintained by amateurs.

How does your application solves the above mentioned challenge/problem:

This Quadcopter can be used in surveillance, monitoring of regions that are large distances from the base station thanks to its connectivity on the Internet. Swarms of Quadcopters with inter-communication capability can be deployed to conduct operations in areas that are inaccessible to humans, like in search and rescue operations.

AISQ can be introduced in a wide variety of fields. Some of them are as follows

  1. A.   Military Surveillance
  2. B.   Forest Supervision
  3. C.   Animal Census in sanctuaries.
  4. D.   Sports coverage.

With our application it is possible to trace an object via quadcopter n simultaneously from LabView enabled playstation.

Description of Project:

The AISQ looks up for surveillance through Quadcopter attatched with the Webcam.

As the quadcopter flies, the webcam records the video.

Webcam is attached to the Raspberry Pi to which the WiFi module is connected too.

Over the WiFi the Raspberry Pi constantly sends the video file the LabView enabled basestation.

The object tracing is done in Labview and it constantly traces object cordinates and calculates the centroid of the location and sends it to the quadcopter over the WiFi.
The quadcopter accordingly keeps following the object.
