Thank you for your interest in the 2009 Graphical System Design Achievement Awards, the National Instruments technical application contest showcasing the most innovative projects based on NI software and hardware. This is your chance to share your graphical system design innovations with more than 2,700 NIWeek attendees and network with NI leadership, press, industry leaders, and other category winners at the invitation-only awards ceremony and dinner on August 4, 2009.
Below are instructions on how to submit your entry as well as guidelines and judging criteria that will help you submit a winning application.
Deadline: Your complete online submission, including electronic copies of your paper, images, and Right to Publish form, is due April 3, 2009. NI reserves the right to reject any submissions that do not meet these requirements.
One finalist and one winner are selected in each of the following 10 application categories.
You must select ONE of the 10 categories for your submission. NI reserves the right to recategorize papers based on content.
All category finalists and winners will also be considered for the following featured awards:
Multicore Award
NI is recognizing the application that best exemplifies how to take advantage of multicore technology to help meet today's engineering challenges.
Green Engineering Award
NI is recognizing the application that best demonstrates environmental benefits and the use of sustainable design practices.
Humanitarian Award
NI is recognizing the submission that has the potential for making the biggest improvement to and profound impact on everyday life.
Editor's Choice Award
An external committee of editors and journalists from industry trade publications is selecting the Editor's Choice Award winner.
Only category winners will be considered for the overall grand prize trophy, the 2009 Customer Application of the Year Award.
All finalists will be notified and invited to the exclusive awards ceremony during the NIWeek 2009 worldwide graphical system design conference, August 4-6, in Austin, Texas. In addition, the awards steering committee will create a display poster for each finalist submission to be featured on the main concourse during NIWeek 2009.
All finalist submissions will be published and featured online at ni.com as well as in the TechInsights website "Innovations in Graphical System Design."
The prizes are as follows:
An anonymous panel of judges consisting of trade publication editors and NI experts evaluates all entries. Entries are judged according to the following criteria:
1. Is the application technically challenging?
2. Are the benefits and solution clearly articulated?
3. Is the solution innovative, time-saving, and cost-effective?
4. Does the application demonstrate an excellent use of NI hardware and software products? In other words, is the solution an excellent example of graphical system design?

2. Screen Capture Guidelines - Ensure the highest quality for all of your captured images.
3. NI Style Guide Cheat Sheet - Quickly reference editing and style guidelines for your submission.
4. 2008 Graphical System Design Achievement Award Winners - See previous category winners for examples of exemplary submissions.
5. Graphical System Design Achievement Award Official Rules - Review general information, eligibility rules, and prizes for the contest.
