Start looking at the compactRIO examples with example finder. If you don't know ANY LabVIEW at all there will be a pretty steep learning curve to implement a control system like that, especially if you are working in FPGA.

You probably want to start working in interactive mode, running code on cRIO from developement environment as that will give you fastest feedback without needing to mess around with network comm stuff.

First thing to do, is run a program that will read values from your modules and display them. Just that step will teach you a lot about ow it all works.
