roboRIO 1 unknown Admin password - cannot image or reformat

We have a roboRIO 1 that apparently has an Admin password set other than the default (which would be <blank>). 

We are unable to apply an image or reformat with the password. We are able to access the internal web server and SSH with PuTTY, however we can cannot proceed as we are always prompted for the Admin password.

No one on the team remembers changing the Admin password on the RIO and we have tried many different password combinations. 

Is there a way to reset or recover the RIO without knowing the Admin password?
