Problem:
I downloaded and installed LabVIEW 8.5.1 for use in my FIRST competition, but LabVIEW does not accept my activation code.
Solution:
You should install LabVIEW from the DVD shipped in the Kit of Part from FIRST. Your Serial Number is printed on the DVD.
If you still cannot successfully activate, open the NI License Manager from the Windows start menu (Start»Programs»National Instruments»NI License Manager). Expand the Local Licenses section of the configuration tree and then expand the LabVIEW 8.5.1 section. Under LabVIEW 8.5.1, expand the Development System section. You should see a list of development systems.
Note: If the FIRST Robotic Competition license is not listed in License Manager after placing the license file in the Licenses directory you can manually install the license file into License Manager by selecting Options » Install License File... and browsing the the license's files location on disk
Make sure that you have a yellow box next to the FIRST Robotics Competition entry denoting an evaluation version good until Jan 15, 2010. If not, right-click on the FIRST Robotics competition entry and select Activate. You should be able to complete the following activation steps and activate over the Internet with the serial number specified on the FIRST activation page (L12R86754). A fully featured activated product will have a full yellow box next to it.
The image below shows how the NI License Manager should look once the FRC Control Software has been properly activated.
Below is an explanation of which activation state the colors and boxes denote.
Note: If you are having trouble activating one of the toolkits, such as Vision Assistant, make certain that you are trying to activate the FRC version of that software. The FRC version will have "FRC" in the name.

Not sure who to ask but now that our team's run for 2009 has ended, I'm wanting to learn the LabView programming environment. Early on, our DVD's got scratched and actually, I only have one of the two. I would like to acquire a new set of DVD's and wondered whom to talk to and if there are any costs involved in the replacement process.

Thanks for the post. That's sort of my trouble, I'm not sure who to contact. I've left a general message here (NI.com) and a general message there (FIRST). Do you know of any specific group or alias at FIRST I should direct my inquiry?
-Ted Dressel
I am uncertain of the specific place to direct your question. I looked around the FIRST website and found this link http://www.usfirst.org/contactform.aspx which is just a general contact, not specfic to parts at all. If you click on the link for FRC teams, it does give you a robotics specific email address which may be helpful.

Thanks for these installation tips.
