Greetings, all!
I am pleased to announce that I will be teaching a 3 day course on the Actor Framework on July 29 - 31. That's the Wednesday to Friday before NIWeek.
Here is the course description:
The Actor Framework
This advanced course discusses how to use the Actor Framework to design and implement scalable, extensible software architectures for LabVIEW applications requiring a high level of concurrency. Participate in discussions and work independently and collaboratively to learn how to design and build individual actors, and to architect an application built with those actors. Learn how to work in the framework, use inheritance and composition to build highly parallel systems with rich behavior, and test and deploy completed systems. The lead instructor for this course is a Certified LabVIEW Architect and member of the Actor Framework feature team.
Course Objectives:
Who Should Attend
Experienced LabVIEW users who are architecting medium to large applications that require a high level of concurrency will gain the most benefit from this course.
Less experienced developers who are working on an Actor Framework project will gain an understanding of how to work effectively in the framework, but may not grasp some of the architectural concepts.
Prerequisites
Object Oriented Design and Programming in LabVIEW.
Agenda
Cost: Free, but seating is limited to 12, and a few seats are already taken.
Location:
NI main campus, Austin, TX
11500 N Mopac Expwy
Austin, TX 78759
How to Register
This course is not a regular offering through NI Customer Education. If you wish to attend, please send me (niACS) a private message with your contact information, and I will add you to the list. Once the course is full, I will post here. I will maintain a waiting list, for any who are interested.
Attendees will be responsible for their own travel, accomodations, and meals.
Feel free to post questions here, or send me private messages.
Will the course materials be made available online? I would love to take this course, but Austin is mighty far away for me.
Please!!! I can not come over from Europe for that course, sadly :-((
And another plea: Please put not just the plain course material or even a presentation online. There's just not enough 'flesh' in a presentation in most cases I've seen. At least add comments to slides or record your talk as audio or video - or provide the course as online course as well.
Greetings from Germany!

Lul, that's why I haven't simply released the material yet. It needs more commentary to be useful as self- teaching tools.
I've heard from a few of you in Europe saying that you'd like to attend but cannot. If we offered the course somewhere in Europe, how many of you could travel to attend? Would you travel to the UK (where we have a pretty good training facility)?
It's a three day course, so that's not feasible from the US.
It might be feasible from a European location. Would people be interested in that?

Or one 24-hour session, which would be equally good/bad for all timezones! We could do it like a Netflix binge watching. We can hand off the webcast to different instructors around the world in four shifts. 🙂
(I've been looking for an excuse to be sent to our Bangalore office!)
Hi,
i would attend that course, even if i have to travel from germany to somewhere.
regards
Thomas
UK would be ok for me, I always love travelling to the island.
Though Germany would be even better, then I could offer a three day's supply of decent beer
Well, UK was better, but still requires some travel effort. Besides, even having to go to NI Germany in Munich/München has that effort. Allthough there is some good beer in Munich 😉
An online course was best IMHO, I have good experiences with NI online courses. Or a selfpaced study.
Anyway, this material is long awaited.
BTW, in any case I have to ask my boss for approval, so I can only tell I'm interested. We have to check the schedule in order to finally decide on participation.

The UK would suit me as well, and a trip to anywhere else in Europe wouldn't be out of the question either. It all depends on dates/getting approval from work.
I would be also interested in AF course, in Europe. UK is preferred but I'm flexible to attend anywhere in Europe. September to December 2015 would be also nice as timing.
Will it be the new and improved version of this:?
Yes. When did you take this?
December 2013. MGI Clearfield.
You'd recognize most of the content, though there have been some significant changes and there is new material.
Once the course has been held in Austin TX, there will be some material available for individual self-training? Or there are plan to make a training event in Europe in the following months?
Regards
Maurizio
The course is being considered for inclusion as a regular NI course offering, and we don't release PDFs of our courses, so I will not be able to provide any self-paced materials at this time.
I do hope to see this course offered in Europe, and I am in discussion with my European counterparts about the plan to do so. I don't anticipate an offering before the end of the year, though.
Thanks niACS,
I look forward for this course in Europe when available.
Regards,
Maurizio Bollini.
Hi niACS,
are there any news avaliable on the potential European session?
Regards
