For a newbie I would have said "Stop using Express VIs!".
Assuming, of course, the user is programming in LabVIEW as opposed to (body shakes in convulsion) C.

Don't listen to the Express VI naysayers. You can open the front panel of an Express VI and can see the block diagram. Very useful to someone who is just learning how LV works. Just don't use them too often. They can be bloated and inefficient. But you'll probably learn that eventually and outgrow the need for them. Best of luck to you.
