New Statuses in the LabVIEW Idea Exchange

The LabVIEW Idea Exchange has been a phenomenal success in helping the LabVIEW development team prioritize the features that you, as a LabVIEW user, feel will have the biggest impact on your ability to be efficient and effective. As the number of ideas continues to grow in the LabVIEW Idea Exchange, it has become increasingly necessary for NI to actively manage idea statuses. To help with this process, we are introducing a “Declined” status to remove ideas that will not be implemented for various reasons. See each status below for more details.

Active

  • New – The “New” status will contain all of the ideas currently being considered by the LabVIEW development teams.
  • In Development – As the LabVIEW development team begins to implement ideas from the LabVIEW Idea Exchange, they will be placed in the “In Development” status.
  • In Beta – When each new version of LabVIEW goes Beta, the ideas that have been implemented in the Beta will be placed in the “In Beta” status.

Inactive

  • Declined – There are a variety of reasons why an idea could be placed in the “Declined” status. There are several instances where the idea already exists in LabVIEW, violates LabVIEW programming paradigms, or there are reasons why National Instruments won’t or can’t implement an idea. In these cases, the ideas will be placed in the “Declined” status along with an explanation of why.
  • Duplicate – New ideas that are a duplicate of existing ideas will be placed in the “Duplicate” status.
  • Completed – As ideas are implemented in a released version of LabVIEW, the ideas will be placed in the “Completed” status.

You can filter the ideas by any status, and then sort them by Most Recent and Top Kudoed.

We welcome any feedback that you have regarding this process. Thank you for being a valued member of the LabVIEW Community.

Respectfully,

Jeff Phillips

I have a suggestion, quoted from here:

"Cool! :thumbup1: Another useful delineation is when the solution was delivered. The 'Completed' category could be granularized by timeline such as 'Delivered LV2009', 'Delivered LV2010'. If the Idea Exchange is to remain for years to come, it will be neat clicking through the years and seeing what was released."

Similarly, a different type of delineation could be reserved for Ideas that are not a direct product of the Idea Exchange (and are therefore not good candidates for the 'Completed' category):

"One category we lack is the 'Already Implemented' - Ideas that are requested that are already slated in the current release phase - such as Inlined SubVI's - and those that have existed for a long time - like Swap Inputs. (yeah, that's my bad :smileyvery-happy: )"

Finally, the "View Ideas..." custom widget is a great way to navigate through the different statuses.
