National Instruments installers with compatibility warnings ...

Hello,

I have recently installed a new PC under Windows seven with the complete 2010 developer suite ...

On this PC i have to run an old CVI application which use traditional Daq ... and it don't work for known compatibility reasons !

But i get this information after many web searches and NI support investigations ...

It should be nice to add a compatibility icon in the developer suite and device driver installers, in order to view the compatibility of each product to install.

It should be a way to rapidly know if a product will work or not, or will perhaps work with no garanties ... on a specified Operating system.

The icon should be something similar with a traffic light : Green => The product is OK, Orange => The compatibility is hazardous, Red => No compatible at all !

Hi Manu.net,

I'd like to better understand the problems you ran into.

What was the state of your Windows 7 PC before installing 2010 Developer Suite? Were CVI and Traditional DAQ installed? If so, which versions of CVI and Traditional DAQ?

What happened when you installed 2010 Developer Suite? Which software did you install? What didn't work after installation?

Was any software in the 2010 Developer Suite not compatible on Windows 7?

Thank you,

Hi LaRisa_S,

The problem is general.

I would like that the installers highlights OS compatibilities warnings, during product installation process.

(Or before, during the product selection)

The installer knows what is the active OS of the target computer.

If a product is not completly compatible, an icon should highlights this warning ... or disable and gray the product !

My personnal problem is about installing DaqTrad on an brand new computer with windows seven.

On seven, the daq Boards are not seen as daqTrad peripherals ! (I get the confirmation from NI support)

The DaqTrad will not work on seven !

(A patch exists ... but with no garanties ... and other compatibilities problems ... I can't install it, it's not professionnal !)

The old CVI program i have to run on Windows seven is completly based on DaqTrad !

The effort to translate it into daqMx is too heavy !

An other problem is, that this old program was created without any error handling ! So it takes me a long time before detecting the problem !

This is the origin of the idea : The 2010 device driver installer should have tell me : The DaqTrad is not supported by Windows seven !

I think that other products should have the same problems : For example the 32 or 64 bits versions, ... , toolkits ...
