2014 SP1 introduced error in license checkout from Volume License server

Solved!
Go to solution

After updating a LabVIEW 2014 installation with Service Pack 1, LabVIEW is unable to acquire a license from our VLM server...Does the service pack generate a need for an update of the license, or the VLM server?

The license worked (works) for 2014 before the SP1 upgrade, and is valid until 2016. All permission requests have been approved (there was one new added on the VLM server from my machine when the service pack was installed), and no other installations are using the license (I can start 2013 on the same machine without any license issues. I can also start 2014 on other machines not updated to SP1 yet, without any license trouble (quitting all other instances using the license of course).

The license error from the SP1 installation reports as follows:

LabVIEW Development System

Licensing Attempt 1:
Permission required to checkout license from "bgo-lic-01". (NILM20)
Contact your license administrator if you have any questions. ...

Application Builder

I have restarted the license server, and the machine running 2014 SP1, but no change. Is there a way to reconnect the installation perhaps (although it obviously seems to request the license from the VLM as it should..) to get things sorted out (other than reinstalling the whole thing and trying to apply the service pack again...).

It's a long shot, but what version of NI License Manager are you using? We had an issue with activating a machine and ended up being an outdated version of the License Manager.

The issue was fixed by getting a new license file from NI....I'm not sure how general the problem will be though, for us it seemed only to affect one of the seats we have that also happened to have the Industrial Monitoring add-on...
