Did you mean:

The File "...." has been changed on disk by an external action. Would you like to revert the control to reflect this change?

Solved!

Hi all,

I have quite often this warning or info message that a file has been changed on disk by an external action. I can choose between revert or cancel. I got the feeling that there is no difference between revert or cancel. Sometimes i have like hunderds of such messages poping up.

What could be the cause of that and how can i fix this?

thanks for your help

Hi urs,

it seems you work with VIs on a network mapped folder: this may be the root cause of your error messages!

Try to work on the same project, but with all VIs located on your PCs hard drive.

To exchange with other developers you should employ a source versioning tool like SVN or GIT…

Best regards,

Hi urssieg,

GerdW is correct on this one. It happens frequently, when you work on a nas. When you look at his discussion:

Dialog Confusion on File Rename - Discussion Forums - National Instruments
http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Dialog-Confusion-on-File-Rename/td-p/1958683

they explain in the thread what might be other causes. There is an article, that might be of interest here:

Software Configuration Management and LabVIEW - National Instruments
http://www.ni.com/white-paper/4114/en/

and to go further into source code control, this gives some insight:

Best Practices for Managing NI LabVIEW Applications Using the Project Explorer - National Instruments
http://www.ni.com/white-paper/7197/en/#toc4

I hope this helps you along!

Best,

Niko

Hi

GerdW answer hit the nail. I'm working with vis on a network mapped folder. Then the solution is quite easy just to change to a local drive.

thanks
