Unable to see device in NI MAX when it shows in Windows Device Manager

I have two new workstations that I'm interfacing with some KD Legato 100 Syringe pumps. My goal is to give the two devices aliases for use in my LabVIEW application (which is built into an executable). The drivers for these pumps are installed correctly, and I can interface with them just fine over HyperTerm, and they have valid COM ports. I've done the following:

1) Power cycle everything

2) Reset the MAX database (on both machines, no dice)

3) Reinstall MAX (on both machines)

I can't even see the unaliased COM ports on these machines in the application. Any ideas?

Solved by installing the NI VISA runtime, according to this article: https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z000000P6soSAC

I was under the impression that it came along with the System Configuration package which was probably a poor assumption on my part.
