Want to use LabView to communicate using PC's ethernet port

Can I use my PC's existing ethernet port to allow LabVIEW to communicate with another ethernet equiped device or do I need to buy the National Instrument ethernet card. If not, what is the advantage of the card? If I can use the PC port, how do I access it in LabVIEW? Thanks for any help.

Yes you can use any built-in port for ethernet communication. There is a good example of this that ships with LabVIEW. Check out "Simple Data Client.vi" and "Simple Data Server.vi". They are very easy to understand and extend to any particular application.
