Solar Cell Monitoring Example

Scenario: There is a big solar energy farm in a desolate area that is quite an effort to get to, let alone the effort of cleaning the solar panel.  A major issue is the predictability of power output, specifically in relation to peak energy usage times.  Additionally the panels get dirty, losing efficiency, and the cost of sending someone to check the solar panels daily and clean them is out of the budget.  For these reasons, a smart monitoring system has been implemented on the RIO platform. The system will be able to display the current status through an LCD, power output through LEDs, a temperature warning, and have a clean command on  push button three (PB3).

Goal: Understand communication and operation methods between a FPGA, a Real- Time operating system, and a Windows user interface using LabVIEW hardware. Specifically, the LabVIEW RIO Evaluation Kit will simulate an array of solar cells and monitor their status.
