roboRIO 2 5V shorted to ground

Solved!
Go to solution

We purchased two roboRIO 2s this past October. Unfortunately, one of them failed during our first quarterfinal match on Turing at the World Championship. The DIO 5V rail is shorted to ground, measuring about 0.5 Ohms. What is the process for return, service, replacement, etc?

Thanks!

Hoping to bump this up.... If an RMA should be requested in an alternative manner, please let me know.

Hello Geoff,

Thanks for reaching out.

Fortunately, a short can often be solved by inspecting/cleaning the pins and contacts (it is indicative of a metal shaving having gotten lodged somewhere). A can of air-duster or a vacuum with a small hose is useful for this. I would suggest inspecting exposed pins carefully with a flashlight and trying to clean out the exposed pins first. Then, if that didn't solve the short, carefully remove the cover and attempt to clean/inspect around the pins and/or look for loose shavings.

Please attempt this and let me know if it solves the issue or not and we can go from there.

I double checked the pins, which looked fine, and blasted everything with compressed air just to be sure. There must have been something that escaped our visual inspection. After the air, I had 5V on the DIO pins. I'll test more thoroughly at school and reply if anything is still amiss. Sorry for the trouble!
