Installing NI-USRP for LabVIEW 2012

It's been a few months since LabVIEW 2012 was released. Is there a supported way to install NI-USRP support for LabVIEW 2012 or does a new installer of NI-USRP need to be released? As of right now, NI-USRP 1.1 is available and installs support up to LabVIEW 2011 but not LabVIEW 2012.

Thank you!

Hey DrSpaceman,

NI-USRP 1.1 was released before LabVIEW 2012, so that is why it is not listed in the readme.  I have installed it and used it with LabVIEW 2012 and have not run into any issues.

Also, great forum name 🙂

Thanks for the swift reply Sarah_Y!

As for installing in 2012, I assume you refer to copying over the files from the LabVIEW 2011 directory into the respective LabVIEW 2012 directory.

But here's a curveball: what if I'm trying to go from a 32 bit installation over to a 64 bit 2012 installation? I don't believe the installer installed 64 bit support (niusrp_64.dll) when I installed to the 32bit LabVIEW 2011 version and running the installer I don't see any 64bit targets. Searching the unzipped installer I can't find it.

The NI-USRP driver has only been tested with LabVIEW 32 bit. Is 64 bit LabVIEW a requirement? (LabVIEW 32 bit runs on 64 bit windows as well.)

ErikL,

The requirement is debatable and we need to dig a bit deeper on this end to determine if it is. We're having some issues with another vender's 32bit hardware driver installing onto 64bit Windows wheras their 64bit driver seems to work fine, hence the move to 64bit LabVIEW.

For the time being, I can use 2011 32bit for my prototyping and development. Down the road a 64bit option would allow some flexibility when we start integrating various parts of the whole system.

I will pass this along as a feature request.

As a data point, my system is running 64 bit Windows with LabVIEW 32 bit and NI-USRP. I have not experienced any problems.

Dr Spaceman,

Generally we recommend that most people use the 32 bit version of LabVIEW unless they are planning on using our vision software. Many of our toolkits and modules only work with LabVIEW 32 bit. This article talks more about the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit. http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/71E9408E6DEAD76C8625760B006B6F98

As a follow-up to the original question, NI-USRP 1.2 is now available, which includes "proper" support for LV 2012.

For the record, however, NI-USRP 1.1 would install support to the LV 2012 directories, if you selected the "LabVIEW (latest version) (32-bit) Support" feature.

NI-USRP 1.2 still only supports LV 32-bit.  We've noted the request and can consider support for 64-bit LV as customer demand dictates.
