How many encoders ?

From how many encoders may I read using a PCI-6601 ?
Looking in the user manual at the description of the PFI lines in the motion encoder context, after Channel_A, Channel_B and Index/Z I can see some paranthesis from (0) to (3).
Does this means that I can read from four encoders ?

There are four counters(counter 0, counter 1, counter 2, counter 3) in PCI-6601

Thank you. I saw four counters but how many encoders (each one for example with A and B signals) can I connect to the board ?
What if the encoders have A, B and Z signals ?
How do I make the connections ?

Hi Tom,

You can use one encoder for each counter on the board.  In your case, the 6601 has 4 counters, so you can use 4 encoders.  You can find more information on encoders and this board by looking at the following links or searching 'quadrature encoder' on Ni.com.
