What is better for flowmeter totalization

What is better for flowmeter totalization, a pulsetrain or current loop? I have the option of using a pulsetrain or a 4-20mA loop. Would I have to integrate if the current loop is chosen?

Hello;

Can you give us more details about the whole process of flowmeter totalization. I'm not familiar with that, but if you could provide us more information on that I could probably give you some advise.

If you use flowmeters with switch-type sensing (flips over when a given fluid chamber is full), your input signal is digital: a pulse.
It is most obvious to use a counter (available on many DAQ-cards) to totalise the amount of pulses.
Integration of analog signals (like 4-20mA) may give trouble due to drift (non-zero inputs).
