DIAdem VIEW synchronization should respect channel units.

Status: Declined

Hello

Thank you for your request. We understand your suggestion but given the age of this entry and the fact that just a few sponsors are supporting it, we have decided to decline this suggestion and prefer to develop more frequently requested features instead. We hope you understand this.

Greetings

Walter

For example, if the Waveform X-Step Width of a waveform channel is "500", DIAdem VIEW synchronization - using the default playback rate of "1" - will playback one value every 500 seconds, as though it is assuming that the channel was recorded with one data point every 500 seconds.  If you set the Waveform X-Unit to "ms" (because you realize your data was recorded every 500 milliseconds), the playback rate of VIEW synchronization is still one value every 500 seconds.  The only way to adjust the playback speed is to adjust the VIEW synchronization playback rate.  It would be nice if VIEW synchronization playback respected channel units.

That sounds like a very natural handling of the data. Yet, depending on your measurement, it doesn't provide the appropriate results. If you think of a high speed camera and a measurement which only covers a fraction of a second (e.g. a vehicle crash) you don't want the video to use the original frame rate.

I understand that your suggestion would cover the use case you described, but I am wondering how to cover a more general use case.

Hi Andreas,

I agree that the dialog field should remain a multiple of the native replay rate, the way it is now.  The problem is that the "1" setting doesn't work properly if your X axis unit is not "s".  Say you have a Crash data set that lasts 300 ms but you have data channels with an X unit of "s"--  you'll have X values from 0 to 0.3.  If you now set up your relative synchronization replay speed to be 0.1, you have a nice slow-motion replay of the data.  But if you convert the X unit to "ms", so that your X axis values range from 0 to 300, then your 0.01 replay speed is 1000 times slower, and the I think it shouldn't change.  The dialog field should remain relative to the native replay rate of the data set, but the native replay reate of the data set should be independent of the X unit selected.
