communication problem between Soft Corr III and PCMCIA card

Dear all,

I have a PCMCIA-GPIB installed in a laptop (Windows XP). I use it to control my potentiostat (PAR 263A). MAX shows that the instrument is found at address 14, however, my software (Soft Corr. III ) could not locate the potentiostat. It shows that the program address is at 30 in EG&G bus manager. How could I fix this problem?
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hello Zebrafish,

According to the command set manual for your device, the default address is 14.  It also mentions that you can change this address from the System Menu (page 49).

Did you try sending a command to the instrument in MAX and reading the response?

Dear Olivier,

Thank you for your reply.

There is no problem for the communication of my instrument in MAX. It does not respond to string "*IDN", but "ID" works.

Hello again,

The information you provided seems to indicate that the problem is with Soft Corr III or EG&G bus manager.  I am not familiar with that software and I could not find any documentation online.  Do you know of any manual available online for Soft Corr. III or EG&G bus manager.  It may be a good idea to take a look at the settings in these programs.   One parameter to look at might be the timeout values.  In the PAR 263A manual, there is a mention that the deivce may take longer to respond to commands.  It may be worth trying to increase the timeout values for certain parameters.
